Feb 25 2026

The LEER ROLLITUP Retractable Tonneau Cover is a sleek, low-profile solution designed to protect your cargo while maintaining full bed access. This installation guide covers key steps, based on the official installation manuals.

Tools Required

  • Before getting started, gather the following tools:
  • 7/16” wrench or socket
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Side cutters or needle nose pliers
  • Utility knife

Before You Begin

  • Installation is designed for one person, though a second person can make positioning easier.
  • Most standard and full-size trucks do not require drilling into the truck body.
  • Verify your truck has factory drain holes or access ports before beginning installation.

Step-by-Step Installation

Step 1: Unpack and Inventory Components

  • Carefully remove:
    • Complete canister assembly
    • Left and right rails
    • Clamp pack
    • Drain tubes
    • Top cover
    • Hardware pack
    • To avoid scratching parts, cut tape carefully and unwrap components on a clean surface.

Step 2: Position the Canister

  • Place the canister at the front of the truck bed, directly behind the cab.
  • Center it from side to side.
  • Use the pull-strap wrapped around the canister to assist with lifting and positioning.
  • Proper centering ensures correct rail alignment in the next step.

Step 3: Install the Side Rails

  • Install instrctions for the rails may vary by truck model
  • The plastic rail endcap faces the tailgate.
  • Remove the protective paper from the underside foam (packaging only).
  • Rails include pre-installed shims for proper spacing.
  • Slide the handle assembly into the rail channel, then attach each rail to the canister using:
  • 1/4-20 x 1” rail bolts
  • Lock washers
  • Flat washers
  • Secure loosely at first to allow adjustment.

Step 4: Install the Clamps & Set Rail Spacing

  • Attach two clamp assemblies per rail.
  • Important Spacing Adjustment
    • Before fully tightening:
      • Position rail endcaps approximately 1/16” from the tailgate to allow proper overstroke.
      • Measure the Between the Rails (BR) dimension at both the canister and tailgate.
      • For many Chevrolet/GMC and Ford F-150 applications, BR should measure approximately 58 9/16” depending on part number (see part number label on canister).
  • Play Adjustment
    • Minimum: Enough side-to-side movement for smooth operation.
    • Maximum: No more than 1/8” per side.
    • Remove or add shims if adjustment is needed.
    • Proper rail spacing is critical to prevent binding or unintended opening.

Step 5: Attach the Pull Strap

  • Loop the pull-strap through either clamp at the tailgate end and secure the Velcro.
  • This ensures easy access when closing the cover.

Step 6: Install the Kickstands

  • Install kickstands at the tailgate end of each rail:
  • Position pivot foot against the flattest part of the bed wall.
  • Rotate until square to the bed wall.
  • Tighten wing nut.
  • Adjust bolt until rail is visually level.
  • The base can be flipped 180° if additional clearance is needed.
  • Re-check rail spacing after leveling.

Step 7: Lubricate & Position Sweep Seals

  • Locate the sweep seals on each rail.
  • Apply the provided UV protectant to:
  • Underside of sweep seals
  • Wear strips
  • Ensure seals angle outward toward the cover (not rolled inward).
  • Avoid alcohol, petroleum, or silicone-based cleaners.

Step 8: Install Drain Tubes

  • Confirm foam washer is installed on drain fitting.
  • Trim drain tube to length (error on the long side).
  • Insert fitting into canister until it clicks.
  • Route tubing through:
  • OE drain holes
  • Access ports
  • Or pre-drilled 3/4” holes if necessary
  • Ensure tubes are directed downward for proper water drainage.

Step 9: Install the Top Cover & Velcro Anchor

  • Secure top cover to canister using four black screws.
  • Fully retract cover.
  • Attach 4” Velcro strip to pull-strap.
  • Secure underside of rail at preferred location.
  • This keeps the strap off the bed floor when not in use.

Final Installation Checklist

  • Canister centered
  • Rails properly spaced
  • Clamps fully tightened
  • Kickstands leveled
  • Drain tubes routed correctly
  • Sweep seals positioned properly
  • Cover opens and closes smoothly
