How to Install the UltraGroove Electric Retractable Tonneau Cover

Feb 19 2026

Installing the Pace Edwards UltraGroove Electric Retractable Tonneau Cover gives your truck premium security, sleek styling, and push-button convenience. While installation steps may vary slightly depending on your truck model (such as Ford Ranger or Chevy Colorado/Canyon), the overall process follows the same proven sequence.

This guide walks you through the major installation steps so you can confidently install your new cover and get back on the road.

Before You Begin

Tools Required:
  • Tape measure
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • 3/8” wrench or socket
  • 5/32” Allen wrench
  • Side cutters or needle nose pliers
  • Utility knife
  • Masking tape
Most installations do not require drilling into the truck bed. However, always check for factory drain holes before beginning.

Pro Tip: Read through the full instructions before starting.

Step 1: Unbox and Inspect Components

Your UltraGroove Electric ships in two boxes:
  • Canister box
  • Rail box
  • Inside, you'll find:
  • Complete canister assembly
  • Left and right rails
  • Top cover
  • Wiring harness
  • Clamp pack and hardware
  • Clamp extensions
  • Drain tubes
  • Foam seals
Remove packaging carefully, do not slide rails out of the box to prevent scratching

Step 2: Prepare the Bulkhead or Stake Pockets (Model Specific)
  • Depending on your truck each truck make will have slightly different instructions.
  • Clean surfaces thoroughly before applying adhesive-backed components to ensure proper bonding.
Step 3: Install the Wiring Harness

From inside the truck bed:
  1. Route the harness through the driver-side stake pocket.
  2. Run it along the frame toward the battery.
  3. Attach the fuse holder to the positive (red) wire.
  4. Leave slack inside the bed for electronics connection.
  5. Do not connect to the battery yet
  6. Secure the wiring with provided zip ties once routing is complete.
Step 4: Position the Canister
  • Place the canister at the front of the truck bed, centered side-to-side.
  • You may need to temporarily elevate it (using the shipping box or buckets) to allow rail installation clearance
  • Proper centering ensures smooth rail alignment in the next step.
Step 5: Install the Side Rails
  • Identify left and right rails.
  • Hook each rail into the canister rail guide.
  • Thread the lead rib into the rail channel.
  • Slide rails forward and secure them using provided screws, flat washers, and lock washers
Be careful not to fold the sweep seal into the rail during installation.

Step 6: Install the Top Cover & Set Tailgate Seal

With the tailgate closed:
  • Pull rails back to ensure proper tailgate cap seal engagement.
  • Confirm approximately 1/4" spacing between bottom cap and tailgate for proper sealing
  • Apply foam across the front sill.
  • Secure the top cover using the provided screws.
  • Proper foam placement is critical for water resistance.
Step 7: Install Clamp Extensions & Clamps

Attach clamp extensions to each rail (labeled FL, FR, BL, BR). Orientation matters:
  • Tailgate end and cab end placements differ slightly depending on truck make and model.
  • Install clamps (two per rail) and tighten by hand.
  • Check spacing between rails using the BR gauge and confirm consistent measurements from front to rear
Step 8: Install Kickstands
  • Kickstands stabilize the rails at the tailgate end.
  • Attach to clamp grip.
  • Adjust until rails are level.
  • Verify proper rail spacing after leveling
Step 9: Install Drain Tubes

The UltraGroove Electric is designed to channel water into the canister and out through drain tubes.
  • Tailgate Drain Tubes
    • Attach fittings to tailgate caps and route tubes through existing bed holes. Trim as necessary
  • Canister Drain Tubes
    • Insert fittings into pre-drilled holes underneath the canister. Route downward through factory access ports or drilled holes (if required)
Important: Drain tube installation is critical for optimal water management.

Step 10: Lubricate & Position Sweep Seals
  • Use the supplied UV protectant on:
  • Underside of sweep seals
  • Top of wear strip on rails
  • Extend the cover and ensure seals angle outward toward the blanket, not inward
  • Avoid alcohol, petroleum, or silicone-based cleaners.
Step 11: Connect Electronics
  • The electronics module is pre-mounted inside the canister.
  • Connect wiring harness to the 2-wire plug.
  • Attach red (positive) and black (negative) wires to the battery.
  • Test operation using the included key fobs
  • Press Open to retract and Close to seal.
Manual Override (If Power Is Lost)
  • If battery power is unavailable:
  • Access the release handle inside the canister (driver-side).
  • Pull the handle and engage the kickstand.
  • Manually slide the cover open or closed
