LEER was honored and pleased to receive the Ford "Interior Design Award" for its 2007 Ford Sport Trac Project Truck in the spring of 2007. Chosen by LEER for its inspired redesign, the Sport Trac, a featured display at the SEMA Show, the SEMA Spring Expo, and in truck publications, features 42% more HP generated from a 4.6L V8 and 26.7% larger cargo box with a corrosion proof composite exterior. The stylish LEER fiberglass tonneau compliments the Sport Trac with lockable storage space, optional keyless entry, and improved gas mileage by eliminated the “parachute effect” of the open bed and tailgate. The LEER 700 Series is now available at over 600 authorized dealers throughout North America.
LEER chose “Gear It Up” as the theme for its version of the Ford Sport Trac, capitalizing on the Sport Trac’s widespread popularity among active outdoor sports enthusiasts in the all-important 35 to 44 age demographic. This group, 65% male, 35% female, is determined to avoid the “me-too mini van and SUV trap” with a vehicle that can solve their everyday transportation needs, but can do far more and go much farther to find outdoor fun and adventure.
LEER is the acknowledged expert at turning great pickup trucks into personal adventure vehicles, especially when outdoor sports are on the agenda. With a LEER 700 Series tonneau, valuable outdoor gear, from SCUBA tanks to camp stoves, can be locked up securely and protected from the elements. An available factory-installed Thule rack can also be added to the 700 tonneau to carry a wide range of outdoor gear and sports equipment. By responding to the needs and interests of active outdoor sports enthusiasts, LEER has been able to provide cargo and storage solutions that work in the real world, increasing the value of any pickup. In addition to the LEER 700 Series Tonneau and Thule rack system, The LEER “Gear It Up” Ford Sport Trac is equipped aftermarket performance enhancements, and bumper-to-taillight appearance upgrades.
Enhancing the power train are a Baer Brake System brake conversion kit, chrome tips, a muffler, exhaust system and headers from Gibson Performance Exhaust, a transmission performance kit from JET Performance Products, a billet air intake system and filters from K & N, Peak antifreeze and Splitfire sparkplugs from Old World Products, high-performance batteries from Optima, and a performance computer chip from Super Chip.
The interior is loaded with audio and video electronics from Audiovox, including remote start, 10” overhead screen console with built-in DVD and GPS navigation, a collision avoidance camera system, XM direct radio, and a mobile computer. Also part of the electronics package: A Jensen DVD player with touch screen for the dash, and ten 7” video monitors. Kicker provided speakers, amplifiers, woofers, subwoofers, and the power supply.
Audio master Terry Bierly from Bassick Addiction designed and constructed custom door pods and the custom carbon fiber, wood and leather truck bed entertainment center, with DVD, stereo, computer hookups, X-Box system and speaker mounts.
The driver of the Sport Trac will enjoy the LB Threads custom carpet kit, the carbon fiber accents from Phoenix Dash Works, and Nu Image and Faze gauges.
To take the chassis to a higher level, participants provided a lift kit and shocks from Belltech, custom chrome wheels from Discount Tire and tires from Toyo.
Other exterior enhancements include dark tinted windows from Beckart Film, custom Dupont paint applied by Damons Motiv Nation, neon lighting from Varad, carbon fiber wiper blades from PIAA, a custom grille cover from Precision Grilles, and Bike, snow ski and kayak racks from Thule. All modifications of the Sport Trac are readily available aftermarket parts that will emphasize the performance and luxury aspects of the newly redesigned Sport Trac. The “Gear It Up” Sport Trac is one more example from LEER that demonstrates that Project Trucks should be dreams that can come true for truck lovers.
